Hector did.
Hector was a chef and canny individual. He’d immigrated from Italy and ended up in Cleveland where he opened a restaurant … Italian naturally … and it was a big hit. People came from all around .. and boy did they enjoy his meatballs and spaghetti.
So much so that they kept asking Hector for his recipes and ingredients. And that’s when he had an idea … why not package his food and let people enjoy it at home?
So Hector opened a small factory to do just that. Soon sales from his factory surpassed sales of the already incredibly successful restaurant. Within a few years, to meet increasing demand, Hector expanded to a much bigger factory in Pennsylvania, which was a lot closer to the abundant supplies of tomatoes and mushrooms that he needed.
During World War II, the US military asked Hector to produce army rations and he kept his factory working around the clock.
Hector contribution to the war effort was so important that he was awarded one of the highest civilian honours the US govt can bestow.
Today, the pasta Hector created still sells millions and millions of units every year … and you can see Hector’s name and likeness on every can of … Chef Hector Boyardee.
Chef Boyardee is a great idea … because you can do it if you just try.
