Mr. Blumes did …

Mr. Blumes loved business from an early age. After working for a major department store for 13 years in Calgary, he was in charge of Men’s fashions. Unfortunately, he did not see eye-to-eye with management as he felt they was missing a big market … quality clothing and footwear for working people … like parkas and boots for workers headed to oil rigs.

The department store and Mr. Blumes soon parted ways. But Mr. Blumes decided to put his money where his mouth was and opened his own store in a strip mall. It was an immediate hit.

Pretty soon Mr. Blumes was expanding and adding more stores. Wanting to open a store in Ontario he discovered that someone else already was using the same name. So his lawyers suggested he modify his company name by adding his first name at the front. Reluctantly, he did so as he felt the company was more than just one person.

Today, the retail chain Mark Blumes started in Calgary to focus on work wear has 380 stores across Canada … and is still named after him … Mark’s Work Wearhouse .. or Mark’s for short.

Mark’s is a Great Idea .. because persistence makes things work.
