Robert was an English Chemist who’d heard about the profits to be made in America from petroleum and spent his life savings to get there. Arriving in Pennyslvania, Robert toured oilfields and met oil barons … one day he noticed a rigger scraping “rod wax” that collected on the rigging .. the worthless stuff came up with the crude and often gummed up the works … the rigger told Robert that some riggers thought the stuff also helped wounds heal faster … well Robert was intrigued and set out to see if he could make something out of it .. and ten years of effort later he did … and opened a factory to make his now patented miracle cure he initially called Wonder Jelly … but then nothing happened … pharmacists just weren’t interested in the product … and that’s when Robert had a truly unique idea … he took to the road demonstrating the properties of product to everyday people and then gave away free samples … the demonstrations were of Robert burning, cutting or scalding himself and then applying the Wonder Jelly … it worked … once people used up the free samples they asked their local pharmacist … who then started ordering Robert’s Wonder Jelly in a big big way

Today, almost 150 years later, the product Robert Chesebrough initially called Wonder Jelly remains high popularly worldwide under its brand name derived from a combination of the German word for water and the Greek word for oil … Vaseline
