Bill Goode was a racecar driver … he loved everything about it … so much so that he ended up becoming a racing promoter … and he tried everything to make race nights fun at a track just outside Brisbane, Australia … in between races he’d have entertainment … which was a band of young local kids that called themselves the Rattlesnakes … they’d sing and play music in the back of a truck that drove around the track … and the deal was that the Rattlesnakes could keep any of the money that the crowd tossed at them … and the band earned lots of pocket money this way. Well the Rattlesnakes played so well raceway promoter Bill Goode introduced them to a local DJ named Bill Gates who really liked what he heard and started to play the boys music on-air … except he didn’t like the Rattlesnake name … so Bill came up with a new one … one that ensured his name, Bill Goode’s name and the lead singers name would all be honoured.

Today, almost 60 years later, the band originally called the Rattlesnakes who entertained crowds by singing together in back of pickup truck at a motor raceway are one of the most successful recording acts in music history having sold over 200 million albums worldwide … under the name a Brisbane dj came up with based on his own initials, the raceway promoters initials and initials of the leader of the band …. Respectively Bill Gates, Bill Goode and Barry Gibb .. the Bee Gees
