John did.
John grew up farming and making wine in Solvenia … but after WWII, he ended up in Germany working for a circus training sea lions and bears. Soon he emigrated to Canada John and tried just about every job he could think of to earn money. His strong work ethic impressed people and quickly got John work at a drydock fixing ships near Niagara Falls … and that’s when he had an idea for building an underwater amusement ride … and an idea he and a partner sold to a little company called Disney as the basis for their 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride at Disneyland. Now John loved the Niagara Falls area so he invested his share of the profits into figuring out what he wanted to do next … and that’s when he had his second great idea .. creating his own tourist attraction near the Falls … he bought some land and, leveraging his experience, welded two large tanks together, installed portholes and let tourists watch some SeaLions at play … he even let the tourist feed them … to get noticed and people interested in his attraction … he had a local wrecker fill the parking lot with old cars so that place always looked busy … it worked … and then he expanded adding other attractions.
Today, 55 years later, John’s little tourist attraction that he started by welding two tanks together is a major tourist draw for the Niagara Falls region… entertaining hundreds of thousands of visitors every year … Marineland
