Henry and his brothers did.
Henry Hassenfield and his brothers ran a small textile company in Rhode Island. Things were going well so they started to expand … and decided to move into selling pencil cases and school kits. But when pencil costs increased they made the decision to produce their own … and started to make more money. It was a revelation … you make more if you make it yourself.
Soon they started creating and selling more products such as doctor kits … and they experimented with using plastics to make them.
Then one day they met George … George had had an idea for a toy and after years of unsuccessfully pitching it had just recently sold the idea to a cereal company to include it in their cereal boxes.
Now Henry and his brothers were so convinced that it would be a great addition to their line .. they bought back the rights to George’s idea from the cereal company. And they started making and selling George’s toy on their own. It was a massive hit under its new name Mr. Potato Head and fuelled tremendous growth.
Today, the company the Henry Hassenfield and his brothers started, and that took off thanks to Mr. Potato Head … sells over $4 billion in toys a year … and it is still named after them. Has as in Hassenfield bro as In brothers
