Phil did …
Life was good for Phil. He was 39 and had great career as a historian and editor who compiled the short stories of famous people
One day he awoke from a dream … and just had to write his own short story. He called it “The Greatest Gift” … unfortunately publishers did not think so …. So, after four years of repeated rejection, Phil kind of gave up and printed up 200 copies himself. He then sent them out as Christmas cards to friends.
Which is when something really Wonderful happened. One of the cards ended up in the hands of a movie producer whose studio promptly bought the rights.
Eventually a big budget movie based on Phil’s short story was made but turned out to be a major box office disappointment … earning just half its large budget.
Well that would be the end … except something Wonderful happened again … the movie unexpectedly started to grow in popularity. It was rereleased and did well. It was rereleased again and did even better.
Today the movie based on Phil’s story The Greatest Gift story is one of the most beloved of all time … and you’ve probably seen it multiple times yourself … It’s A Wonderful Life.
