Alexander did.

Alexander lived in Cincinnati … and together with his wife … had two daughters who he loved very much Olivia and Elizabeth.

When it came time for marriage Olivia chose William, an English born candle maker … and Liz chose James who was good at making at soap.

Alexander was very pleased … and ready for grandchildren … but life was far from easy in Cincinnati… the economy was in a bad way … the government was close to bankruptcy … and William and James each faced a lot of competition in their respective candle and soap businesses.

So Alexander had an idea … he suggested his sons in law go into business together … that way they’d be much stronger and dramatically increase their chances of success. Well it made sense to Walter and to James … and that’s what they did … not only did they survive the downturn they prospered when things turned around … and things got even better when Alexander’s grandkids and great grandkids got involved in the business.

Today, the company William and James created at their father-in-law Alexanders suggestion … has grown immensely .. and moved beyond candles and soap into a worldwide enterprise … with 140,000 employees, brands like Pampers, Tide, Folgers, Charmin, Downy, Duracell, Gillette, and Braun and annual sales of $70 billion … and it is still named after them … William Proctor and James Gamble.

Proctor & Gamble is a great idea … because by working together you always much stronger than on your own.
