Walter did.
It’s a bit of cheesy story but Walter grew up a farm boy who aspired for more. His family had immigrated from the Ukraine to Northern Alberta and brought both a love of hard work and a love of traditional foods . Walter always stuffed himself on one particular dish … the only problem was it took hours and hours to make.
As luck would have it, while attending Expo ’67 in Montreal, he unexpectedly came across a unique machine at the Soviet pavilion capable of making this particular dish in a very short time. Now Walter knew exactly what he wanted to do - Mass produce this food item and effectively create a cheap but hearty meal for working class families.
Well that turned out to be easier said then done … it took him over 2 years just to get the machine and when it did arrive it constantly broke down –After opening a tiny store in Edmonton Walter and his family began to criss cross the province attending
hundreds of fairs and marketplaces, giving out free samples of the dish … which helped enormously grow its popularity within Alberta and then the rest of Canada.
Today, the business Walter started still focuses on just one thing … and sells over 3 million of this Ukrainian, and now Canadian favorite every single day across North America … a favourite you can find in the frozen food section of most grocery stores …. Cheemo Perogies
