Rolland & Napoleon did.

Rolland and Napoleon were competitors ... they both owned stores in Montreal that offered consumers a wide range of products … but they were also partners … you see they were two of the founders of a merchant buying group … The industry they worked in had lots of independents like them … but it was getting hard to compete with the bigger companies … so the independents had decided to work together to formed a merchant buying group in order to bypass wholesalers and obtain volume deals direct from the manufacturers … the independents could then better compete and pass on any savings to their customers … it worked and worked well … Before they knew it the merchant buying group was growing by leaps and bounds. It worked so well that when it came time to change the name they decided to honour Rolland and Napoleon by naming the company after them.

Today, the company Rolland and Napoleon helped start has 500 stores across Canada, 20,000 plus employees and over $4 billion in annual sales … and is still named after them using the first two letters of each of their names …. Ro for Rolland and Na for Napoleon … Rona
