Rod did.
Rod was a bit off the wall … Growing up in England, he loved pop music … and decided to try becoming a musician and a songwriter … and after lots of hard work he and his band Heatwave had a minor international hit with a song called Boogie Fever … well one day a music producer who really liked Boogie Fever called .. an artist he was newly working with was auditioning 200 songs for just 10 slots on a new album and he asked Rod for 3 … well they liked Rod’s songs so much they chose all 3 … and one even became the title track … the album was a monster selling 20 million copies.
So, three years later, when the artist and producer started working on new album they naturally asked Rod to contribute again … and this time he came up with a new song he called Starlight … now the artist and producer really liked the music but wanted a better title and lyrics … so Rod went back to his hotel and stayed up til after midnight dreaming up over 200 alternative song titles … but the next morning he woke up with just one rolling around in his head … one word that he could see everywhere … and to everyone’s horror they went with that.
Today, the album featuring the title song written by Rod Temperton is the single most successful record album of all time … and the new title he came up with sounds a lot better than the original Starlight name … Thriller
