Song for the Babies

Bob did.

Bob was born in Pittsburgh .. and just couldn’t quite figure out what he’d love to do forever. He tried history, anthropology and education .. he worked in orphanages and daycare centers and was studying to become a Jesuit priest when he had a revelation … he loved working with children … so much so that he moved to Canada to work at a preschool in Guelph, Ontario … it was fun and he really enjoyed it .. to entertain the kids he’d often make up stories right on the spot … he was so good at it that people suggested Bob write the stories down and publish them. And that’s what he started to do. Then people started buying Bob’s books … and you might think life became easy … but it wasn’t … you see .. Bob and his wife really wanted to have their own kids … but tragically they had had two babies who were stillborn … Bob and his wife were devastated, and to cope Bob wrote a love song to his lost babies… a song he couldn’t sing without crying .. one day it occurred to Bob that if he couldn’t sing the song he heard in his head, maybe he could write a story around the song and share the love that he felt. And that’s what he did.

Today, over 30 years later, the simple story of love that resulted from Robert Munsch and his wife’s personal grief is considered one of the most popular children’s books of all time … Love You Forever
