Jim and WT did …

It sounds a bit Cheezy now but Jim was a typical young, intensely passionate farmer from Ohio who was also quite inventive. Wanting to feed his cattle year round, Jim tinkered with ways of preserving corn .. together with a friend they built a special machine that moulded the grain into porous sticks. It worked really well.

A while later WT, who ran a big snack food company in Chicago making all types of treats from candy to potato chips heard about Jim’s machine. Wondering whether they could use it to create some type of new snack, he tried acquiring the machine.

But Jim had other ideas … he didn’t want to be a farmer anymore … so he instead he joined WT’s operations and together they create a new type of cornmeal based snack.

Jim eventually came to Canada to run WT’s snack food operations. When WT’s American company went bankrupt, he too came north. Together Jim and WT focused the Canadian company on just one snack.

Today the snack they created from cornmeal fried in oil and coated in powdered cheese is ubiquitous in Canada in its red and white packaging … Cheezies
