King and William did.

King was a travelling saleman who was always coming up with ideas and trying to patent them. One of his employers was a man who’d made a fortune inventing disposable bottle caps .. and he gave King some simple advice .. create something disposable so people keep coming back to buy. Well King looked around and did just that .. he fashioned a crude prototype and an innovative design … but just couldn’t get anyone interested in the investing because the product would be very difficult to produce … but King didn’t give up … finally 6 years after coming up with the idea he met William a clever engineer who knew exactly how to manufacture King’s product and designed the machinery to do it …. When they were ready to sell the product .. they wrestled with what to call it … if they used William’s last name Nickerson … well people might think the product might nick its customers … so they went with King’s last name instead … and the rest is history.

Today, over a 100 years later, the basic product that partners originally came up still sells 750 million units every singe year around the world … and all because Willian Nickerson figured out how to manufacture what King Camp Gillette invented … The Disposable Razor
