Hugh did …

Hugh and a few friends were in a pub when they got into an argument.

What was the fastest flying bird? No one really knew, so there was no way to win. But then Hugh had an idea … if he and his friends were having these arguments then perhaps others in the thousands of pubs across England and Ireland were too. Now Hugh knew a few things about pubs since he ran a large brewery. Maybe a book to help settle arguments might prove popular.

So the brewery created and printed up a thousand copies and gave them away … everyone loved them. Soon the demand became so great they started selling them … and setting record after record in the process.

Today, Hugh’s great idea is the world’s most popular copyrighted book with over 100 million copies sold in 24 languages … and it is still named after the brewery Hugh ran … the Guinness Brewery … which launched the Guinness Book of Records in 1954.

The Guinness Book of Records, now Guinness World Records story is a Great Idea because if you solve your own problems chances are you are solving someone else’s too.
