Al, Marc and Fred did.
Al and Marc were inventors … ideas were bubbling up around them all the time … and they were absolutely convinced they’d come up with a great idea of their own … textured wallpaper. And they created Textured wallpaper by sealing two shower curtains together … the textured appearance came from the ridges created by the air in between sheets. And they formed a company to sell and market it. Well, unfortunately, no one really bought it. So, then they thought maybe we can sell it as greenhouse insulation. Nope … again, few people were interested. Fast forward three years and Fred who worked for Al and Marc marketing the product had an idea … IBM was introducing their brand new computer which was a very sensitive piece of equipment … maybe Al & Marc’s product could help ensure the computer arrived in pristine form … Fred pitched IBM … and IBM loved it … Pretty soon every IBM product came wrapped in Al & Marc’s textured wallpaper. And then everyone else’s too.
Today, the product originally intended to take the wallpaper business by storm and that was initially made by sealing two shower curtains together generates almost $1 billion annually for Sealed Air Corporation, the company Al & Marc founded. Bubble Wrap
