Margaret did.

Margaret grew up in Chicago .. and was enthralled by hair from an early age … so much so that she ended up at beauty school after winning a scholarship in high school … however, Margaret was so poor she had to practice on dummies which she glued her mother’s already cut hair too!

But things got better … by the mid 1950s she’d won the national hair styling championship … and became well known in beauty circles … and she had her our upscale salon in Chicago.

One day a few years later the editor of Modern Beauty Shop, an industry trade publication, encouraged Margaret to come up with new and different hairstyle for the new decade.

Now in the world of hair styling there is only so much new stuff … but Margaret gave it a shot … and when she finished she stuck a pin in it to make it look nicer.

Well it was a hair-raising event for the magazine editors who loved the new style … and asked Margaret what she called it … well Margaret didn’t have a name .. so an editor said … well the pin makes it look like something .. would you mind if we called it that? Margaret was quite happy.

Today, Margaret’s famous hairstyle is known worldwide … with everyone from Audrey Hepburn to Amy Winehouse to Marge Simpson sporting it … and it definitely says the 60s like nothing else … and it got its name because of a bee shaped pin Margaret stuck on it making the editor think it looked like a beehive.

The Beehive hairstyle is a great idea … because coming up with something truly original or, being unique, can end up tasting pretty sweet!
