Leroy and Stanley did …
Leroy was not excited about working at the local Texaco refinery in his Montana hometown. So he and his wife started a drive-in restaurant called the Green & White. While it did ok it was not a big moneymaker … when a new highway interchange forced its closure Leroy and his wife luckily ended up with more money than he likely would have otherwise … so they then took a big risk and moved their young family north to Edmonton .. to became early franchisees at A&W … and they did well.
The whole family worked in the restaurants including oldest son Stanley.
A few years later things were going well when Leroy and Stanley got really lucky. They thought there was room in the market for a casual burger and beer restaurant … So they got some wooden parrots, green and white paint and garden furniture and opened a new restaurant. It was a massive hit. After a bit of refining, they had defined a whole new dining category.
Today the restaurant chain Leroy and Stanley started has over 60 locations across Canada and in the US. And is named after Leroy and Stanley … and specifically the middle name shared by both father and son … Earl
