Tom did …

Tom lived in Vernon, BC., a town on the shores of beautiful Kalamalka Lake.

After years of working odd jobs, Tom took a chance and bought the local service station. It was expensive and he had to borrow money from virtually everybody he knew to do it .. including $20 from the former owner so he would have something in the till … well the next 18 months were not any easier but one of the bright spots was selling tires … pretty soon Tom realized that maybe being a tire dealer might work out better. So together with his partner Jim, they converted the service station into a tire store.

Then they set about building it up by offering customers great service and by innovating … including getting other tire dealers in other cities to adopt their brand so that they all could share buying power and branding. Well it worked … and Tom’s company grew fast by instantly adding these loyal, knowledgeable local dealers.

Today, over sixty year later, the company Tom and his partner Jim started now has over 250 locations all across Canada … and it’s still named Tom’s favourite lake in Vernon, BC … Kalamalka Lake … Kal Tire.

Kal Tire is a Great Idea because trying new concepts out and being persistent never gets tired.
