Jamie did.
In 2011, Jamie was having a mid-life crisis. He was 35 with a young family and wasn’t sure what he wanted to do next with his life. So he did what he always did … which was go into the garage and tinker around and try to invent things. But he had a problem. While in the garage, he kept missing the delivery people dropping off packages at his front door. What to do? Well, Jamie rigged up a gadget he called DoorBot. Maybe DoorBot was the invention he was looking for.
After investing everything in DoorBot, Jamie was broke … but then an opportunity appeared. He could go on SharkTank. But despite a powerful pitch he left without a deal. And began laying awake at night wondering what to do next. But then something incredible happened … the publicity from Shark Tank spurred huge product sales … and attracted other investors.
Just a few years later, in 2018, Jamie sold DoorBot to Amazon for over $1 billion … that’s $1 billion dollars. DoorBot doesn’t ring a bell? Well, Jamie changed the name after Shark Tank … to Ring.
The Ring Video Doorbell is a great idea because when you have a problem in need of a solution .. others might too … and beat a path to your door to buy it.
