Geraldine’s mother did.

Geraldine grew up in California and was pretty enough to be a model … which is how she earned her living for over 20 years … but as Geraldine got older she was ready to say yes to a change of pace … so she applied to be a hostess on a cruise ship … at the interview she was asked if she spoke Spanish and Italian or played the card game Bridge … and said yes to everything even though she didn’t know any of it … well she got the job … and before long was promoted to cruise director and that’s where Geraldine’s mother comes in … you see every week Geraldine would write her mother a letter .. telling her about what had happened aboard the cruise ship with the passengers .. well Geraldine’s mother not only kept the letters … she sent them to a book agent … who promptly asked for sample chapters … and at the age of 51 former model Geraldine became a published author …. And when a travel writer suggested Geraldine’s book would make a great tv show … Geraldine said yes again.

Today, that TV show, that came about all because Geraldine Saunder’s mother sent her daughter’s weekly letters to a book agent … is one of the most iconic in television history .. and spurred a huge increase in cruise ship travel … The Love Boat
