Late Flight

Jim did.

Jim played football for the University of Mississippi. He was good but not quite good enough .. he had hoped to make the NFL but it wasn’t going to happen. So Jim decided to pursue his second passion .. which was writing songs … and to do it he figured he had to move to Los Angeles.

Once there he wrote and wrote .. and in his spare time played in a recreation football league … now one of his teammates was Lee Majors, the star of the hit tv series the 6 million dollar man … and they became buddies … one night Jim called Lee’s house … Lee wasn’t home but his girlfriend was … Farrah Fawcett … so Jim asked Farrah what she was doing and she said she was going to take a late night flight to Houston … and that’s when Jim had a great idea… a great idea for a song … that he recorded himself as a country song … but didn’t go anywhere. Well another singer heard the song and wanted to record it .. and it became a hit … a big hit.

Today, over 40 years later, Jim Weatherly’s song is in the Grammy Hall of Fame and is considered one of the most popular songs of all time .. and its title essentially came from the words Farrah Fawcett said to Jim on the phone that night .. she was going to take the Midnight Plane to Houston …. Make a slight dramatic adjustment … and you get the Midnight Train To Georgia

The Midnight Train To Georgia is a great idea because inspiration can happen everywhere .. even when chatting with a major celebrity!
