Rob did.

When Rob was just a kid his dad gave him a book … a book Rob absolutely loved. Fast forward 25 years and Rob had done pretty well … he’d been a writer on the Smothers Brother Comedy Hour, won an Emmy for a TV role and had just directed two movies … at a meeting with studio executives they told Rob he could choose any project he wanted to do next … but when he brought up the book he’d loved since being a kid … instead of saying as you wish .. they smiled and said well anything except that book … you see unbeknownst to Rob multiple studios and giant directors like Francois Traffault, Robert Redford and Norman Jewison had already tried only to back out as everyone called the book unfilmable ... but Rob wouldn’t take no for an answer … and finally with some funding and support from a mentor Rob finally got the green light. When it was released the movie did poorly … in part because the studio just couldn’t figure out how to market it … but like in many fairy tales something magical happened … as the movie inconceivably took on a life of its own on video.

Today, over 30 years later, the beloved movie Rob Reiner created based on the book by William Goldman is now considered an all time classic … and all because Rob relentlessly pursued his goal like Inego Montoya … The Princess Bride
