James did.
For James, success was never going to be in the bag. Growing up in England, he was anything but conventional … first he studied art but then fell in love with engineering … while successfully helping others he hated how the rigid structure of engineering school often sucked all the creativity out of a good design.
One day, while cleaning the house he became frustrated .. but had a cyclone of an idea for a revolutionary redesign of a popular machine … so he built a prototype and then another … partly supported by his wife’s salary he tried over 5,000 different designs over 5 years to get it right.
Then he took his idea to the biggest manufacturers and distributors in the country … they all said no.
Undaunted James looked elsewhere … and ended up selling his products in Japan. With some success behind him he opened his own manufacturing plant back in England and started marketing the products on TV himself .. promoting the fact that his product didn’t need the regular supplies that all the competitors did.
Within 2 years James had the fasting selling product of its type in the UK … despite being much more expensive than all the competitors.
Today, Sir James Dyson is a billionaire whose self-named products are hit worldwide … Dyson Vacuum Cleaners
