Frank did.

Frank badly badly wanted to be a pilot … but the air force wasn’t interested. So Frank conned his way in as an aircraft mechanic hoping that he might get to fly … it wasn’t much fun until one day his commanding officer noting Frank’s gift with model planes recommended him for Officer Training.

It was the chance of a lifetime and Frank took it.

He’d learn to fly … but it also meant he’d have to write a thesis. Frank decided to write his on aircraft design and a revolutionary idea he had.

He showed his idea to the air force but they thought it was impractical. Undaunted Frank patented his idea and formed a company with two friends to develop a prototype. Money was tight but once it was ready, the air force was so impressed they promptly invested. It took a few more years to perfect but became so important to the air force and to his country that he was knighted at the age of 41!

Today the idea Sir Frank Whittle had and then did something about has literally changed the world … and you benefit from it every day without even thinking about it … except when maybe looking out the airplane window … the jet engine.

The jet engine is a great idea because overcoming life’s hurdles can allow you to reach heights you never thought possible.
