Garry did.

Garry worked as a salesman for company that sold chickens, turkeys, eggs and other food products in bulk to restaurants. He enjoyed it.

One day the senior executives at his company were besides themselves. They had over ordered way too many turkeys for Thanksgiving ... and now had half a million pounds sitting unsold in 10 refrigerated rail cars … and they had absolutely no idea what to do.

Well that’s when Garry had his idea … at one of his clients he had seen some packaging they were using for an airline and had borrowed a sample … he suggested to the executives that they modify the packaging and maybe use it to sell the extra turkey. So, kind of like you see on television, the executives decided to give it a shot … and then they came up with a creative name that was bit different to help sell the packaging.

Well, they originally hoped to use up the unsold turkey … instead the packaging and the name were a big hit … the company sold 10 million packages that first year.

Today, over 60 years later, what Garry and the senior executives created and then cleverly named after accidently buying too much turkey … is available generically in every grocery store everywhere … in the frozen food aisle. The TV Dinner.

The TV Dinner is a great idea because sometimes what you do with leftovers like turkey can spark ideas you’ll be thankful for for a very long time.
