Chris did.
Chris lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and he had a problem. He was a newspaper editor and a printer and his compositors were on strike … so he needed a machine that could do their job … now various people had tried inventing typewriters up to that point .. but none had been commercially successful.
So Chris decided to create his own writing machine .. and just like others before him it wasn’t working … the problem was the keys kept getting stuck together … frustrating him and everyone who used the machine … well Chris was nothing if not persistent … and he struggled for five years through trial and error to perfect his invention .. and finally his writing machine worked well. So well in fact that he and his financial backers sold the machine to Remington .. who started to mass produce the machines … and before you know it the modern typewriter was a hit everywhere.
Today, 150 years later, Christopher Sholes invention that took five years of his life to perfect and made the typewriter successful .. is still in use on virtually every computer, tablet and mobile device on the entire planet … despite no one needing to worry about the keys sticking together .. and I used it to write this story … the QWERTY keyboard
The QWERTY Keyboard is a great idea because if you go against type you might just create something special!
