Bill and Scott did.

Bill grew up in the Chicago and hoped to play major league baseball .. Unfortunately, he just wasn’t quite good enough. After getting out of the Air Force, he ended up being the Sport Director for a couple of TV stations … before landing a dream job … as the Communications Director for the New England Whalers of the World Hockey Association … and what made it even better was that his young son Scott worked for the team too! Well everything was going great until one year when the Whalers missed playoffs … and promptly fired Bill, Scott and a whole bunch of others. But it turned out getting fired was just the push Bill needed … together with Scott and Ed, a family friend, they decided to start their own communications business … their only problems: very little money, very big competitors and no content rights … well they pitched and pitched and finally got Getty Oil to back them … and just 15 months after having his idea they opened their new business in Bristol, Connecticut.

Today, almost 40 years later, the company Bill, Scott and Ed created on a shoestring after Bill got fired by the New Englander Whalers has revoluntized television broadcasting with over 100 million monthly subscribers around the world paying it more than $5 each per month … The Entertainment and Sport Programming Network … known simply but its initials … ESPN

ESPN is a great idea because getting fired can actually be a good thing … especially if you stay in the game!
