Kim did.
Kim grew up in England where he was in a band with a strong female singer and two other members. Kim wrote all the songs. To get attention the band decided to record an album at their own expense … and then Kim shopped it to every record label he could think of … no one was interested … at all … until a small independent in Canada called Attic Records saw the light and took to a chance. The lead song became a big hit in Canada and led a major label to take the band international. The hit song then became a massive hit all over the world too … but that’s not the interesting part .. the interesting part is that today over 35 years later that feel good song which has been covered by everyone from the Muppets to Dolly Parton, remains extremely popular generating about a million dollars year in royalties … and led international music publishing company BMG to buy all the rights to the music from Kim’s band for almost $20 million .. a band called Katrina and the Waves. The massively popular song? Walkin on Sunshine!
