Jacques did.

Jacques was a major star for his sports team. Every night he faced the other team by planting himself firmly so no one could beat him.

His coach loved him, the fans loved him and his teammates loved him.

Then one night during a game he got hit … and hit hard. He needed stitches. There was no one else who could play Jacques position so Jacques came back wearing the strangest looking piece of protective gear you’ve ever seen.

Well his coach said absolutely no way in decidedly more flowerly language … no player of mine is wearing that. But Jacques told him either I wear this now or I don’t play and we lose the game. The fiery coach had no choice.

Well they won the game … and then next one with Jacques wearing it and next one … and the coach became much less vocal … after 18 wins Jacques didn’t need the crazy protective gear anymore so his coach told him to take it off … and they promptly lost the next game … the next night Jacques started wearing it again … permanently … and soon other players did too

Today, over 50 years after Jacques Plante backstopped the Montreal Canadians to a fifth straight Stanley Cup .. It is mandatory that every player in Jacque’s position wears one … The Goalie Mask.

The Goalie Mask is a great idea … because sometimes saving face can be best your shot.
