Driving for Success

Joanna did.

Joanna grew up in New Jersey … and just loved science. Her favourite class was science and her favourite teacher lent her books about science .… so it was no surprise that when she graduated Joanna became a school librarian so she could be around science books all the time. Pretty soon, Joanna ended up as an editor for a major book publisher. One day Joanna thought maybe she could write a children’s book … her very first one was about “Cockroaches”. Within ten years Joanna was writing kid’s books and other articles full-time.

Well one day a children’s book publisher who had an idea for book series about science hired Joanna to write it … well she so was nervous and scared she just avoided it … cleaning out her closets and going shopping instead but eventually Joanna started .. drawing on her memories from loving science as a kid. The book was a hit … and the next one too … soon there were more books … which got turned into a tv show and then video games.

Today, over 35 years later, the iconic book series that Joanna Cole wrote, inspired by her love of science and memories of her elementary school and teacher, has sold over 90 million copies. The Magic School Bus

The Magic School Bus is a great idea … because writing about what you love and blending in favourite memories can make your work outstanding.
