Motor Improvements Inc did.

In 1923, Ernst and George patented the first oil filtration system ever for automobiles … they called it “pure oil later”. So, o market it across the US they started a company called Motor Improvements, Incorporated … well after a while they realised the company name wasn’t great … and decided to change it … so for a new name they went with a shortened version of their main product. Then in 1967 the company decided to start selling their oil filters in Canada … and rather than build their own network they decided to buy an existing company to help distribute their products .. the company they bought was called Trans Canada Courier. So naturally, after they bought it, they renamed it … and that was that.

Well by 1987, the company no longer needed the distribution network and sold the distribution company to Canada Post.

Today, over 30 years later, that company is still majority owned by Canada Post and still retains the name of the US company that sold oil filters in Canada .. and whose name is based on its oil filter brand they call pure oil later. Purolator
