Dan did.
Dan was frustrated .. again. For what seemed like the 20th time he had driven all across town just to sit in the Director’s office where he waited for hours until the Director looked at Dan’s work, rejected it and asked him to try again.
You see Dan created the opening titles or credits for movies … he’d worked on many popular movies but was getting particularly annoyed with what he called a “stupid film” because the Director was just never satisfied … that is until one day when Dan had some inspiration … he was watching the opening credits for a 1939 movie called Union Pacific … a Cecil B DeMille film named after the famous railway company … the credits for the film were interesting and different … it was shot from the point of view of the caboose .. as the train rumbled across the landscape at the beginning of the film … the opening credits emerged from underneath the train along the tracks and continued off into the distance.
The Director loved it … and Dan was happy … until he came back 20 more times to get the fonts just right …
Today, the opening credits Dan created for what he called the “stupid film” and that were inspired by a 1939 movie about trains is probably the most iconic of all opening credits for any movie you’ve ever seen … the opening crawl to Star Wars.
