Peter did.

Peter was born in Taiwan but eventually, ended up doing post graduate work up at Kansas State University where he just couldn’t get enough of math, physics and chemistry. Like getting 500 credits when he only needed 90. After graudating he became a professor of at the University of Tennessee.

One day, he and his team were working on a challenge … how to protect miners, painters and other while doing their jobs. The existing processes just weren’t as effective as they needed to be. But Peter had an idea. Maybe electrostatic charging could make a difference … and it did. Now the charged nonwoven fabric could filter particles ten times more efficiently than uncharged fabrics … blocking at least 95% of contaminants.

Well pretty soon Peter’s invention became the national standard in situations not involving oil.

Today, over 25 years later, Peter Tsai’s invention is famous the world over … and not just because it helps miners and painters … but because its been critical to helping health care professionals everywhere deal with the unprecedented challenge of our lives … and its named after the standard and what it does. N for the Not involving oil … and 95 for the 95% of contaminants it filters. The N95 mask
