James Robert did …
James Robert grew up on the family farm in Ontario …with lots of siblings and entrepreneurial parents who started a series of highly successful ventures.
After graduating from university, James Robert went to work at one of his father’s businesses … a manufacturing plant in Hamilton. He went through a variety of positions that eventually led to James Robert to overseeing new operations out West.
Falling in love with the mountains and seeing plenty of opportunity, James Roberts moved his young family to Edmonton.
However, James was frustrated. Living in Ontario there were lots of television channels … particularly all the US networks. Edmonton did not have nearly as many choices.
Taking a page from his father’s book … James Robert decided to start his own cable company … Capital Cable … figuring that others would feel the same way. And they did. It took a sometime but the company grew and grew.
Today what started as Capital Cable in Edmonton now has 3.4 million subscribers and long ago changed its name to that of its founder James Robert … JR to his friends … Shaw.
