Earl did …
Earl grew up on the family farm … but his creativity and salesmanship were hard to contain. He loved to try new things … for example instead of selling the family’s chickens and produce at a stall in the local market like other farmers did, Earl went door to door … and earned lots more money for his family in the process.
Once he left the farm he started his own successful landscaping company but that eventually went bankrupt. Ending up at Dupont working on plastics he found his calling. Within a year he started his own company and started making and selling plastic products for sale to consumers. However, consumers weren’t buying. His initial products just weren’t appealing. So Earl went into the lab and improved his product tremendously through testing and experimentation.
Yet despite several positive high profile media stories, consumers remained unconvinced.
Then one day he noticed that two sale agents who held shopping parties in people’s homes were selling lots of his products. Earl was intrigued … and eventually decided that was the only way to sell his products going forward.
Today, the company Earl Tupper started has over 2.5 million sales agents and over $2.5 billion in sales annually … Tupperware.
Tupperware is a great idea … because if you offer clear value you can often seal the deal with consumers.
