Fred did.
Fred grew up in Toledo, Ohio … and ended up working for Proctor & Gamble as a food chemist. One day he was given a new task … figure out how to make a popular snack food better … you see consumers were constantly complaining about the contents being broken, greasy or stale … and the bag they came in having too much air. So Fred set to work … two years later he’d completely redesigned the snack food to address all of the complaints and even came up with a whole new way to package the snack to make it easier to transport and to stand out. Well there was only one problem Fred couldn’t seem to solve .. the taste … it was awful … so Proctor & Gamble shelved the project … but then about 7 years later they restarted Fred’s original work and figured out what Fred hadn’t … how to manufacture it and make it taste better.
Well soon P&G started marketing the new snack food … in the special containers Fred had created and patented … and the rest is history.
Today, 50 years later, the iconic snack food and its unique container that Fred created to address customer complaints is sold everywhere generating millions in sales annually … and when Fred passed a few years back, at his request, his family buried his ashes in one of those famous containers.
