Dunc did.

Dunc was a travelling salesman who criss-crossed the US selling products for a Chicago printer. At age 55 he had been just about everywhere, slept in most every motel and ate at most every restaurant or so it seemed.

He knew the good from the bad. And so assembled a listing for friends of several hundred good restaurants he liked around the country.

Soon popular demand forced Dunc to turn the list into a paperback called “Adventures in Good Eating”. After that Dunc wrote a book on the best places to stay … and then, to mix it up … a daily newspaper column that focussed on the best recipes he had ever encountered. Before long Dunc was the

After a many years of success a small bakery came calling and asked if they could put Dunc’s name on the bread they made. Well Dunc said yes and it went well. In fact, it went so well that Dunc sold the right to his use his name on a whole bunch of food-related products.

Now most of those products eventually disappeared with one major exception.

Today, Dunc’s full name lives on in a cake mix product you or someone you know probably has in their kitchen. Duncan Hines.
