Bob did.
Bob was 45, retired and really bored of playing golf all the time. It wasn’t enough for a future Dad or a former Marine who had won the Purple Heart after being injured in Vietnam.
Poor growing up, Bob had struggled for everything he had. After leaving the Marines he accidently fell into accounting … leveraging this domain expertise as well as a love for personal computers Bob created his own accounting software … but few people bought it … until he dropped the price way below what his blue chip competitors were charging while he offered much better customer service. Sales took off and Bob eventually sold his software company for over $60 million.
But now Bob was bored … so he started a new company called Jomax Technology that tried all sorts of things like building websites … but most of these didn’t work or were not profitable enough … until Bob realized there was one online business where, like his first company, he could undercharge the competitors while delivering a much better service … Jomax did and it became a huge success under a new, more memorable brand name … especially when a hit Super Bowl ad dramatically increased awareness.
Today, Bob is a billionaire solely because the company he created is now the overwhelming #1 domain registrar worldwide … GoDaddy.
GoDaddy is a great idea … because leveraging your domain expertise can make you crazy successful.
