The Mother’s Club did.

Mary was a strong-willed mother who was actively involved in her community and with her son’s school Mother’s Club. Her son, who went by the family nickname Trey was in the eight grade, smart but kind of shy and anything but soft.

One day, the Mother’s Club organized a rummage sale to raise funds for extras … but unlike most parent groups or schools that spent the funds raised on books or new playgrounds … Mary and her parent group did something completely radical for the time … they spent all the proceeds on something new … a microcomputer and access to a large mainframe.

At the time computers were large and expensive and no one had even heard of a personal one … it was a big deal .. and Mary and Trey’s school was one of the first schools to have access to a computer

Well Trey and his friends were amazed .. before long they spent every moment they could using the computer … and with all that experience they got really good programming.

In fact, by Grade 10, outside companies were hiring the boys to help debug their comptuers in exchange for computer time. …

Trey got so good he even helped automate the school’s shceudle classes … and secretly added a program to make sure all the pretty girls he liked were in his classes.

Well things just grew from there.

Today, the company Trey and his friends started in high school because his mother Mary Gates led her school parent group to do something unusual with the proceeds of a rummage sale … has changed the world … Microsoft.
