Amar did.
Amar was born in Philadelphia … and, from an early age, was clearly an entrepreneur ... at 13, with a growing interest in electronics … Amar started a small business at home employing his classmates to fix model trains and radios which helped his family earn some badly needed income. Well eventually Amar went to university and got a PhD in Applied Science …. And following graduation, he ended up as an assistant professor at MIT in Massachusetts. Life was good for Amar. And to reward himself he bought a high end stereo system … and was immediately disappointed …the speakers had impressive technical specifications but failed to reproduce the realism of a live performance. And that’s when Amar had a great idea …
It took a few years to work out … but with some funding from angel investors, including other MIT professors, he launched his own company. It was tough going at first to get noticed … but when Amar wowed an influential stereo critic the company took off.
Today, 60 years after that disappointing high end stereo system spurred him to create something better … the private company that Amar created and made him a billionaire now employs over 8,000 people around the world making sound systems and other cool things too … and it is still named after him … Amar Bose.
