Andy did.

Here’s the pitch. Andy failed first grade … first grade … but loved science and ended up working for Exxon where his job was using seismic data to pinpoint drill locations .. the job involved a lot of math and signal processing … one day Exxon ran into an urgent problem with its fault seismic monitoring equipment and Andy helped solved it … saving Exxon a $500 million tax break they might otherwise lose. Which got Andy to thinking … what else could he use his valuable math and signal processing skills for …. Well fast forward a few years … Andy was with friends at a music industry trade show and asked them what should be invented .. someone suggested something that could help her sing better … but Andy laughed it off before realizing all his math and signal processing experience could actually help solve the problem … so he invented a device do just that … the next year at the same music industry trade show his device was a smash hit … Producers particularly loved it because it saved enormous amounts of time …. then Cher released her massive hit song Believe which relied heavily on Andy’s device … the rest is history.

Today, 20 years later the device Andy Hildebrand created based on his experience at Exxon doing seismic work has … for good or bad … revolutionized the entire music industry worldwide … AutoTune
