A Listing

Mr. Newmark did.

Mr. Newmark was born and grew up in Morristown, New Jersey. He loved school and, as he wore taped together glasses, a pocket protector and co-captained the debate team, he self described himself as a “possible nerd, patient zero”. In college Mr. Newmark fell in love with computer science and after graduating, worked as a programmer and system analyst for IBM, Bank of America and Charles Schwab.

By the time Mr. Newmark was 43, he was living in San Francisco, kinda lonely and looking to cultivate a bit of community … so he emailed a list of upcoming events to a few friends. Nothing much really. But then something strange happened … other people asked to be included on the email …. And then more people did. Pretty soon Mr. Newmark setup a website to make it easier to manage the list and added different types of information that people were requesting. It was a great hobby … for a while. But after three years, he quit his day job to work on it fulltime.

Today, over 25 years later, Mr. Craig Newmark’s website continues to be one of the most popular sites worldwide. And its still named for him and what it is. Craig’s list

Craigslist is a great idea because you never know what will happen if you just take some action.
