Jack did …

Standing in the middle of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco Jack realized his idea was not very good … he had just tested it but none of his friends seemed to care. So he forgot about it for awhile.

Jack’s idea had come out of his childhood fascination with cities. As a boy he had collected maps. When he was 14 he had learned to program computers specifically so he could plot where all the police cars, fire trucks and ambulances were going on a map.

Jack loved being able to visualize everything that was going on in a city .. one day he realized that he was missing one very large group … what was happening with the city’s residents? How could you visualize that?

With the Internet booming Jack had moved to California to try his hand at web-based software development … and that’s how he ended up in the park that day trying out his idea he initially called Status.

A few years later when the company he was working at was about to go out of business if they didn’t come up with a new idea fast … Jack thought about Status and pitched it. With a little tweaking it worked … and started growing fast … as people flocked to the easy communications tool.

Today the company that grew out of Jack’s idea he initially tried out in a park … has over 200 million active users who tweet 340 million times daily …. Twitter.
